Resistance Letter #58A
November 7, 2018
Day 663 of 1461 days
Dear Co-defendants –
NO, WE AREN’T DEAD YET!!!!
Despite our righteous victory yesterday, we know…yes, we know..that that Trump regime is determined to stymie the House of Representatives and hold Trump above the law and the constitution
Tomorrow, at 5PM, we , along with MoveOn.org, are swarming at Murray and Cornell by Safeway at 5:PM. It’ll be dark, so bring flashlights so we can see and be seen. We are saying with this demonstration that NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW and that, despite our winning yesterday, we have not gone to sleep and look forward to continuing the fight until we win. No Surrender!
THE ELECTION
Yes, Virginia, we did all right yesterday. In Oregon we pretty much had a clean sweep, keeping Brown as governor and furnishing her with a super-majority in both houses of the legislature. For Washington County, Kathy Harrington beat Bob Terry handily to be the next Commission Chair. Unfortunately, we still have Greg Walden to kick around, and we will do that, but we do have four progressive Democrats in the House.
Nationally, we took the House and have Nancy Pelosi in charge, at least for a while. The Senate went to the Republicans with our losses of Smyrna, Bredesen, Heitkamp, Donnely and others. We had an uphill climb with the senate, since 27 out of 36 contested seats were all Democratic. Democrats took six governorships away from the Republican opposition along with at least as many legislatures. On a state level, we can thank Sister Districts for their fine work. Check their website out for a complete list of their accomplishments this election.
INDIVISIBLE CEDAR MILL
We all deserve a hearty pat on the back for our contributions to this mid-term election. We sent out over 5,000 postcards, knocked on innumerable doors, financially supported our candidates, attended town halls, marched in lots of protests and vigorously worked to register and Get Out the Vote. We had no slackers. Members who were initially timid about canvassing put on their boots and dutifully did the job. It’s safe to say that every house in Terra Linda was canvassed, and many more outside our neighborhood. A good and satisfying job! We are all now experienced activists and ready for the next job.
MONTHLY MEETING
The next official meeting is set for Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 1750 NW 131st Ave, 97229. Doors open at 6:30PM and the meeting starts promptly at 7:30 PM. Refreshments, both adult and juvenile. will be provided along with a few tasty snacks.
L’audace, encore l’audace, et toujours l’audace!
Thank you.
